Another ‘lost work’ by Jonah Jones comes to light

3 February 2022

Another “forgotten” work by Jonah has come to light through its owner contacting us via the Oriel Jonah Jones ‘Tell us about lost work’ link.

The owner, who prefers to remain anonymous, wrote that the sculpture was bought by his parents-in-law during the 1970s. It is very similar to Les Petites Soeurs, made in 1973 or 1974, which can be viewed here. The “new” piece, which measures 30 cm x 60.5 cm x 20 cm, may have been an earlier version of the same idea, made perhaps in 1972-73; if so we can name the work Les Petites Soeurs I and the already recorded sculpture Les Petites Soeurs II. However, it is possible that the works were made the other way round in time.

We are very grateful to the owner for allowing us to report on the “rediscovery” of the work, and for supplying the photograph.
